Welcome to the Virginia Wine & Spirits Academy
We provide informative and fun wine, spirits, and sake education, in-class and online, for trade professionals and enthusiasts throughout Virginia and neighboring states.
WSET qualifications are globally recognized as the international standard in wine and spirit knowledge. As a Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Approved Program Provider, we offer a comprehensive suite of qualifications covering wines, spirits and sake. These courses are designed for those who are just starting out in their careers, as well as established professionals, and the many enthusiasts who have a passion for wines and spirits.
After many years in the tech industry, Chris Parker established New Horizon Wines with the singular purpose of introducing Virginia wines onto the global stage, and to contribute to the development of the Virginia wine industry. Educating and informing wine trade professionals and enthusiasts was a significant part of his work. Not surprisingly his interest in wine and spirits education grew, and the idea for the Virginia Wine & Spirits Academy took shape.
Tracy is a former sommelier and winemaker, with a passion for bringing new people into the fold of the wine and spirits industry. Having spent a decade in Napa Valley, followed by several years of international travel as a wine importer, the Richmond, Virginia native decided to return to the East Coast and focus her attention on education. Her consulting company, Waldron Wine Selections, helps individuals to build and manage private collections, and restaurants to craft effective wine lists. Because education is such a key component, she was keen to offer WSET courses to the Greater Richmond community, and eagerly partnered with Chris in the Virginia Wine & Spirits Academy to do so.
Richmond, Virginia has become a vibrant community of new businesses, an exciting area for food, fashion, arts, craft beer, local wine, and distilleries. And now it is our new home base. We are excited to be here and participating in the growth of the Richmond community.
